Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Drive allocation
The configuration of my computer is: HDD: 40 GB, Pentium IV (1.8 Ghz) processor & 128 DDR RAM. I would like to install Windows XP Service pack 1 in C drive with a capacity of 25 GB and Win 98 SE in D drive with a size of 10 GB. The remaining 5 GB will be E drive where I can keep a back-up of all documents. I would like to know whether this will work because I have been told that it is best to keep Win 98 SE in C drive (size 10 GB) and Win XP Service pack 1 in D drive (size 20 GB) and that the balance 10 GB should be back-up drive. Rahul Tandon Technically, you can have any OS on any drive. The only point to note is that it is always better to have each OS (operating system) installed in separate partitions and install their programs in the respective partitions. Typically, Windows 98 is loaded on the C drive as it has to be installed first when installing a multi-boot system with XP or 2000. Generally you can allocate a 5GB partition for Win 98, however the partition size depends on the software you are planning to install for the respective OS. The next OS in your case, Win XP, can be installed in the D: partition, a 10 GB portion should be ideal, the remaining space can be put into the third partition for common access by both the operating systems.
