Trouble while burning CD

I have a problem with my LG CDRW 52X Writer. The burn process fails with a message `Disc not present'.

This occurs mostly at the beginning (when only 2-3 per cent of the process is completed) but sometimes when more than 50 per cent has been completed. My dealers changed the CD drive and gave me a new one but the problem persists. I also reinstalled Windows and the Nero software that I use.

My PC's configuration is Intel Pentium 3, 500 mhz, 40 GB HDD and 156 MB RAM. My operating system (OS) is Windows 98 and the Nero version is 6.3.1.26.

Please suggest a solution to the problem.

Please follow these steps to solve your problem: Step one: Try burning at lower speed, 12 or 15x, next change your CD-R media brand. If you have been using Sony's CD-R, try switching over to HP or Imation. Although optical media are standardised, every company has its own way of implementing them, so changing your brand does make some difference.

The next step is to update your ASPI driver. Please go to the following site http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/aspi.cfm, download the file and run it. Finally, you have an option of updating your CD drive's Firmware. Firmware is basically the program that runs your drive functionally. You can download the latest version of the firmware for your LG drive and update it.

Manufacturers release updated firmware versions with fix for known problems and bugs. You need to go to www.lge.com and click on the search link. In the search text, please type in `firmware' and the model number of your drive, which you should find printed on it. It will look something like this: GCE-8523B.

You should download and run the exact firmware for your drive. Loading the wrong one will render your drive unusable, so be sure to check that you have the correct firmware. You will find a readme.txt file in the downloaded zip file. Please read it and see if your model is listed there, and then run the update.
