Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Unable to voice chat
I have installed the latest Yahoo messenger 7.0. I am unable to start a voice chat with anyone. The Voice icon does not exist on my toolbar. When I invite my friends to a conference, the `Enable Voice chat' check box is grayed out, I am unable to check it. Please explain why this is so and suggest a solution. - Giridhara Tumkur This might happen if you are behind a firewall. If you have enabled Windows Firewall or have installed any third-party personal firewall program, then try temporarily disabling them and then try connecting Yahoo voice chat. If this is successful, then you need to configure your firewall to permits outgoing TCP connections to vc.yahoo.com on ports 5000 and 5001. You need to add this in the "Exclusion" list of your firewall settings. If it is Windows Firewall you are using, then here is how you can add this to your exclusion list. Please double-click on the Windows Firewall icon in the Control Panel and in the dialog box, select the second tab "Exceptions" and click on the "Add Port" button, type in a name and for the port number type in 5000. Repeat this process and add the port 5001 also, click ok till you close the dialog box. Yahoo has provided an "Audio Setup Wizard" to help in identifying that your system satisfies the basic requirements for an audio chat. You can download and run this wizard from http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/voice/vwiz/vwiz-03.html This wizard will test your audio settings and connection settings and will indicate problematic areas. For more on troubleshooting, please refer the Yahoo site at http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/voice/vwiz/
