Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off DLL version conflict
I am using a P4 system with 256 MB RAM and Windows 98 as the o/s. My e-mail program is Outlook 2000 installed as a part of MS Office 2000. Word was the editor for Outlook. I was using Word as email editor without any problem. But now, when I compose/read mail, Word is not activated. Instead an error message appears as below: "This form requires Word as your e-mail editor, but Word is either busy or cannot be found. The form will be opened in the Outlook editor instead." Similarly, when I try to send messages from word documents through the e-mail icon in the toolbar, the following message appears and word gets closed: "Winword caused an invalid page fault in module RPCRT4.dll" I have reinstalled/repaired the MS Office but the defect couldn't be rectified. Please suggest a solution. Jayachandra Kumar S.R. These types of problems occur when there are version conflicts between related dlls, this might happen when upgrading or installing new programs. Please download and install Office 2000 Service Release 1a (SR-1a) from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=AF6C8D03-7633-45B4-AB96-795EE656F2A2&displaylang=en This will update your Office installation, rectifying problems in office-related files, which should solve this issue. If the problem persists, please download and run Mcrepair.exe from http://download.microsoft.com/download/ msninvestor/patch/1.0/win98/en-us/mcrepair.exe Once this is run, restart the PC and run the office repair process.
