Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Installing mobile data cable
I have Windows XP in my computer. Whenever I try to connect the data cable of my mobile (Nokia 6610) with my PC, it is not detected. However, it is detected in other computers. So I want to know whether my computer is USB compatible or not. Is this the reason for the cable not being detected? Naveen Mahla
Please go into BIOS when the system starts by pressing the appropriate key usually Del or F10 or F2.
In the BIOS, look for the USB port interface setting and set it to `Enabled' if it is found Disabled.
Please check to see you have at least SP1 (service pack 1) installed for XP, if not install it.
Next, if you had installed any other cable drivers, uninstall them and install the cable driver DKU-5, which should have come with the cable or you can download it at http://www.nokia.co.in/nokia/0,,59871,00.html,
You are supposed to install the cable driver and then plug in the cable.
If you had plugged in the cable first and then installed the driver, then uninstall the cable driver software, right-click on My Computer and click Manage, then select Device Manager.
On the right if you see any devices marked with yellow question mark, right-click on it and select uninstall, restart the system, install the cable driver and then plug-in the cable.
A complete step-by-step guide is given in pdf form in the above site.
Please look it up for more details.
