Internet A new way of seeing things
The printed word is clearer now. - H. Vibhu
You see numbers and you see graphs and charts. The facts are all around you. And still the impact of what is presented to you doesn't hit you. You have this weird feeling that you are missing something, but there is no clue to show "what is wrong with this scene?" This is where the art of information visualisation comes in, and this is what "Worldmapper: the world as you have never seen it before" (http://www.worldmapper.org) does for you about the state of the world. There are 56 maps at the Web site at the time of writing and these maps show the relative position of the countries around the world for the selected parameter in terms of the size. For example, in all the population maps, India is a huge balloon, a bulging monster; but look at the maps on tourism, and India figures only as a thread. Other maps include immigration and emigration; aircraft, rail and road passengers and networks; freight and shipping; vegetable, fruits, cereal, dairy, meat and fish exports and imports; groceries, alcohol and cigarettes exports and imports. Imagine the art of information visualisation showing your performance (not a good idea) or showing the state of your health - a very good idea, for you might take steps that could save your life!
