Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Virus trouble
I am using a system with Win XP as the operating system, and with Pentium 4. Of late, whenever I connect to the Internet, various unknown sites such as www.ecommerc-e.com , www.a-d-w-a-r-e.com , www.browserbuy-out etc pop up. I have updated NAV 2005 installed on my machine, have cleaned the system regularly. Every time there are one or more viruses showing up which I delete. These are: Spyware.Isearch -delete failed Adware.gain -delete failed, Adware.coolwebsearch - No action taken, Downloader.Trojan - automatic deleted. At times after scanning, the message displayed is "Your computer is still infected." I have also tried to scan in `safe mode'. Mitesh Shah It appears that your system is infected with adwares and spywares. To get rid of this problem, please follow these steps one by one. First clear Temporary Internet files and Temp folder. To access temp folder, click Start - Run - type " % Temp % " and click ok. Delete all the files in temp folder. Next uninstall all the unwanted adware programs. Open Control Panel, double click "Add/Remove Programs" and select the unwanted adware programs (GAIN ad-supported programs) and click Remove. Next, please install and run any anti-spyware tool Ad-aware or Spybot-Search & Destroy and delete all the unwanted adwares, this may be freely downloaded from, http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html. and http://www.download.com/3000-8022-10122137.html respectively. Adware.GAIN is an adware program that downloads and displays advertisements. Symantec has developed a free removal tool for Adware.GAIN and this can be downloaded from: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/RemGAIN.exe For Adware.coolwebsearch problem, you can run Trend Micro's CWShredder(size 520KB) which provides good defence against the new Cool Web Search variants. It can be downloaded from http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/ products/online-tools/cwshredder.exe Spyware.Isearch is an Internet Explorer BHO and functions as a toolbar. To remove this, click Start - Run - type the following line and click ok. Regsvr32 /u " C:\Windows\System32\toolbar.dll" If a dialog box confirming this action appears, click ok. Next uninstall iSearch Toolbar. To do this, please open Control Panel and double click Add/Remove Programs. Select iSearch Toolbar 1.0 and click Remove. Now boot in Safe mode, and run a full system scan of anti-virus. Next you need to delete some files and do some changes in the registry entries. Please refer the following URL for the procedure http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/spyware.isearch.html In future, to safeguard against spywares, please do the following. Make sure you have installed Windows XP service pack 2 (SP2). To check this, click Start - Run - type "winver". This will show the service pack that you have installed. Next enable the popup blocker. To enable this open IE - Click Tools - Internet Options - Privacy tab - enable (tick) the check box "Block pop-ups". Next enable "Windows Firewall". To enable this, open Control Panel - Windows Firewall and click the option "On (recommended)". It is advisable to install any anti-spyware tool with real-time protection. Among the free tools available is Microsoft's Windows Defender (Beta 2). This can be downloaded from this URL: http://www.majorgeeks.com/ download4466.html(size 5.4MB)
