Slideshows and Screensavers: Playing with light

You may have seen those impressive display units at exhibitions and office reception areas that have ads, inspiring messages, company performance highlights and the inevitable "Welcome, Mr X, to our Factory".

It is basically backlit plastic screens inside a box, and the screens scroll vertically or horizontally.

Or it's a TV set or monitor displaying a slideshow presentation. Wish you could have one like that, with a lot less bother but a lot more class, to impress someone at home?

Check out PixelShade (LightRigs) at http://random-international.squarespace.com/pixelshade.

These lampshades renew themselves by printing digital images onto the shade continuously.

You can have the images change, as you would in a slide show, so you could have a family portrait, renewed by a holiday picture, renewed by pictures from the latest get-together, etc.

But if you are not the sentimental kind, and you just want to have abstract random patterns, go in for the Pendant Lights (http://random-international.squarespace.com/pendant-lights/), which leaves phosphorescent trails on a table - a screensaver on your table.
