Garden of gloom (or boom)

Saying it with flowers. - K.R. DEEPAK

What with the volatility in our stock market in the last couple of weeks, watching the ticker is probably giving palpitations and maybe heart attacks to many of the smaller investors in the stock market.

When one is exposed to these fluctuations for a fairly long period, the doctor usually advises a long holiday where one can feast one's eyes on lush green lawns and well-tended gardens.

No, we are not talking about an up-market asylum here, but somewhere really peaceful.

Well, one can only dream, but bringing it closer is Digitectonics' Ticker Garden (http://digitectonics.com).

You can monitor your portfolio in real-time by downloading the program and adding your stocks to monitor.

The representation is simple: different flowers indicate the different stocks; the height of the stem indicates the relative price; the extent of bloom of each flower reflects the percentage change; the colour and the droop or bloom of the flower indicates if the stock price has risen or fallen since the last trading day.

The icing is the flying bee around a flower indicating recent stock news for that scrip.

The catch? The quotes are delayed quotes, refreshed only periodically, and we don't have the option of checking historical data (yet!)
