Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Converting audio files to MP3 format
I have been trying to record my audio tapes using `Audacity,' but whenever I try to save them as MP3, a pop-up window appears. The error message is: Export MP3 "Audacity does not export MP3 files directly, but instead uses the freely available LAME library to handle MP3 file encoding. You must obtain lame_enc.dll separately, by downloading the LAME MP3 encoder, and then locate this file for audacity. You only need to do this once. Would you like to locate lame_enc.dll now? Yes or No". My system configuration is as follows: Pentium 4, Win XP Prof. OS and 512 RAM. Please suggest a solution. J.I. Sarkar It appears that you have installed the Audacity application only. If you want to convert (export) your audio files to MP3 format, additionally you need to install LAME MP3 encoder. It is an Optional download package. You can download it freely from http://download.overnet.org/lame/lame-3.96.1.zip. (Size 600KB). Please unzip this file and open Audacity application - Click Edit - Preferences - File formats tab. under "MP3 Export Setup," please click the "Find Library" button. This will show the error message that you mention above. Click yes, and browse to the unzipped folder and point "lame_enc.dll" file and click ok. This solves your problem.
