Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off "Delayed Write Failed" error
My system configuration is Pentium 4, 512 MB ram and 80 GB hard disk assembled system. I have installed Windows XP service pack 2. The virus definition updates are being done regularly. The problem I face is that sometimes, when I am working on my system, the error message "Delayed Write Failed" pops up. Why is this happening? Please suggest a solution. A. Muthu Kumar When you save or move documents, or during general file-management activities in Windows XP, you may intermittently receive `Delayed Write Failed' error messages. This issue may be caused if any of the following conditions exist: The `Enable write caching on the disk' feature for your disk is turned on. Your Ultra Direct Memory Access (UDMA) hard disk controller is configured in either of the following ways: You are using a 40-wire connector cable to connect the UDMA drive to the controller instead of the required 80-wire, 40-pin cable or Your BIOS settings are configured to force faster UDMA modes. To resolve this issue, please make sure that your UDMA hard disk controller is using an 80-wire, 40-pin cable. You may ask your system service person whether you are using 80-wire, 40-pin cable or 40-wire, 40-pin cable. If it is a 40-wire 40-pin cable, replace the cable with 80-wire 40-pin cable. Test to determine if the issue is resolved. If the issue is resolved, do not complete the remaining steps. If the issue is not resolved, go to the next step. Make sure that your BIOS settings are not configured to force faster UDMA modes. For more information, please refer to your system manual. Do not change your BIOS settings unless you are very familiar with all the effects of changing BIOS settings. Test to determine if the issue is resolved. If the issue is resolved, do not complete the remaining steps. If the issue is not resolved, please go to the next step. Turn off the `Enable write caching on the disk' feature. (If you turn off the Enable Write Caching On The Disk feature, your hard drive performance may decrease.). To do this, please Open My Computer and right-click your hard disk and click Properties - Hardware tab. Click the hard drive and then click Properties. Click the Policies tab. Click to clear the "Enable Write Caching On The Disk" checkbox and click OK twice. Repeat these for each hard disk installed in your computer.
