I am doing my MCA. I would like to know about freeware utilities that provide System Information and System Diagnosis. Could you also specify some free memory testing software?

The following freeware tools can be used for getting System Information and for System Benchmark testing:

1) AIDA32 is a professional system information, diagnostics and benchmarking program running on Win32 platforms. It extracts details of all components of the PC. It can display information on the screen, print it, or save it to file in various formats such as HTML, CSV or XML. Unzip the file and just double click aida32.exe (No need to Install)

2) Fresh Diagnose is a utility designed to analyse and benchmark your computer system. It can analyse and benchmark many kinds of hardware, such as CPU performance, hard disk performance, video system information, mainboard information, and more!

The following freeware tools can be used for memory (RAM) Testing:

1) Memtest86 is a standalone memory diagnostic tool that runs from a floppy disk (or CD) on system boot. It executes a series of numbered test sections to check for errors. These test sections consist of a combination of test algorithm, data pattern and cache setting. The execution order for these tests is so arranged that errors will be detected as rapidly as possible. Tests 8, 9, 10 and 11 are very long running extended tests and are only executed when extended testing is selected. Memtest86 supports all types of memory and can be run on any operating system. 2) The Windows Memory Diagnostic tests the Random Access Memory (RAM) on your computer for errors. The diagnostic includes a comprehensive set of memory tests. If you are experiencing problems while running Windows, you can use the diagnostic to determine whether the problems are caused by failing hardware, such as RAM, or the memory system of your motherboard. Windows Memory Diagnostic is designed to be easy and fast. On most configurations, you can download the diagnostic, read the documentation, run the test and complete the first test pass in less than 30 minutes.

To run Windows Memory Diagnostic, you must reboot your computer with the disk or CD-ROM on which you installed Windows Memory Diagnostic in the drive. After the reboot, Windows Memory Diagnostic will load and its interface will appear. After loading, the first test pass will begin, using the default standard test suite, and continue until complete, unless Windows Memory Diagnostic is either paused or exited. Once the first test pass is complete, Windows Memory Diagnostic will begin a second test pass using the same settings as before. Windows Memory Diagnostic will continue to run test passes until you exit.
