Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Unable to open attachments
My system is loaded with Windows XP operating system. I'm getting the following error in Outlook Express, likely after service pack 2 was installed. The error message is "OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail: attachment name." The problem I now face is that I am unable to open any attachments. I'm able to see the attachment paper clip but it appears grayed out. Usually, I open only attachments that come from known persons, especially known file types. Moreover I have installed Norton Anti-virus with email protection. Why is this happening? Please suggest a solution. Amul Raj. S After you install Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows XP SP1 (both of which include Outlook Express 6 SP1), access to some of your e-mail attachments in Outlook Express may be removed. By default, the "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" option is enabled in Outlook Express 6 SP1. This behaviour is by design. This is one of the security enhancements made in OE 6 SP1. If you are sure that the attachment is safe to download or open, please use the following workaround. Open Outlook Express and click Tools menu - Options - Security tab - untick (clear) the "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" check box under Virus Protection, and then click OK. Please note that after you save the file attachments, scan them for viruses before you open them.
