If you have the time...

Whiling away the minutes... BIJOY GHOSH

There are some days when you just want to while away the time at work: you are not cheating, because you don't have much to do; and you have been working very hard over the last week. You can't read a novel; can't play computer games because they are no fun without sound effects. What do you do?

Start off with `Do not press' (at http://img252.echo.cx/img252/8159/006wo.swf), an interactive story that will keep you occupied for at least 10 minutes, and once you discover the corny yet intelligent storyline, you will want to show it to at least five colleagues.

The next diversion, Escapa (http://members.iinet.net.au/<108,SYM,126>pontipak/redsquare.html), is a game for which you will be better prepared after mastering the mouse with the previous site. The focus is clear: save the red square.

If you can hold off your enemies for 20 seconds, you must have showcased the previous diversion to many more than five co-workers.

Finally, say with about half an hour of work left, try the Flicker Time Web site (http://www.hottoast.org/convexstyle/flickrtime/), which brings up a beautiful and dynamic digital clock made up of images from the flickr Web site (a community for photos).

You can specify the nature of pictures for the digits that make up the hours, and the clock picks up a random photo stream for the minutes. Watching the beautiful pictures can be a relaxing break from work!
