Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Gmail use
I have both Yahoo mail ID and Gmail ID. In my Yahoo mail, I'm able to add or create different personal folders to organise my mails whereas in Gmail I'm unable to find the option to create new folders. Please suggest a solution. S. Ravikiran You cannot create new folders in Gmail. Instead you create labels that are then attached to individual conversations. But the good thing about labels is that multiple labels can be tagged on a mail, something not possible with the folder concept of Hotmail and others. The labels are shown at the left side; please attach them by using the combo box on top. You can also create filters to automatically label incoming mail. The other ways of organising your email messages are through using Conversation view and stars. The conversation view is much like it is in other e-mail clients such as Outlook. Google groups emails and their replies in your inbox within single `conversations,' a sort of thread known from newsgroups. Clicking on a single conversation will open up the history. In Outlook, for important mails, we apply flag for follow- up. The same in Google is called star. To star a message, you have to click the empty star next to check box of respective mail in inbox. Once clicked, the empty star appears as a gold coloured star. So now you may also sort only star mails. For more information, please refer http://blog.outer-court.com/ gmail-faq.php5. If you would still like to organise your data via folders, the workaround that you can try is GMail Drive 1.0.10. It is a free third-party software download from http://www.viksoe.dk/code/gmail.htm (Size 135 Kb). GMail Drive literally adds a new drive to your computer under the My Computer folder, where you can create new folders, copy and drag `n' drop files to. Basically GMail Drive acts as any other hard-drive installed in your computer. GMail Drive creates a virtual filesystem around your Google GMail account, allowing you to use it as a storage medium. This enables you to save and retrieve files stored on your GMail account directly from inside Windows Explorer. When you create a new file using GMail Drive, it generates an email and posts it to your account. The e-mail appears in your normal Inbox folder, and the file is attached as an e-mail attachment. Because the Gmail files will clutter up your Inbox folder, you may wish to create a filter in Gmail to automatically move the files (prefixed with the GMAILFS letters in the subject) to your archived mail folder. If you access the Internet through Proxy server, then you have to provide Proxy information at the `more' button on Gmail Drive. Please note that GMail Drive is still an experimental tool.
