.nfo file

My system configuration is Intel P4, 1.6 Ghz processor, 512 MB RAM and 40 GB

HDD. I have Windows 2000 Professional installed and am using AVG 7.0 antivirus.

I downloaded some CBTs from the Internet. Besides the readme file, the CBTs include another file with .nfo extension. If I double-click that file, the following error message appears:

"File filename.nfo is not a system Information file. Select a system information file". If I click ok, the standard windows system information screen appears (not the contents of the file).

All the nfo files display the same error message. Is this due to any particular files being corrupted in my system?

Some of my audio CDs include files with .flac extension. I'm not able to play .flac files in my windows media player. Is any audio conversion process required?

The .nfo file is simply an info file that gives information about the CBT, the installation procedure. If any key number is required, that is also mentioned in this NFO file. This is just an ASCII text file. You can open this file in any text editor such as Notepad, Wordpad, etc. By default, in Windows, the NFO extension is associated as an MS Info file. If it is opened, it displays errors, as if it were a corrupt file. This NFO file is distributed along with CBTs, games and also with some applications. The .flac file is another type of audio file such as .MP3 files. FLAC stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec. It is a kind of compressed audio file without any loss in quality. It is suitable for daily audio playbacks and also for archiving or storing audio files. There are applications available to play FLAC files. Popular applications such as Winamp and Windows Media Player support these types of files. Some plug-ins are available for these applications to support FLAC files.
