Mails received twice in Outlook Express

I have an e-mail account with VSNL. My problem is that mails received in webmail are received only once but they are received twice in Outlook Express.

This is happening with every mail I receive. I have tried to tackle the problem but have been unsuccessful. Please suggest a solution.

This could be happening either because the Outlook Express mailbox in your system is corrupted or some mails are corrupted in your mail box at your ISP's server end.

Please take the following steps to tackle this: Temporarily turn off (disable) all mail rules specific for inbox and check.

Temporarily disable POP3 mail virus checking, spam-filter software, email notifier, etc, and check.

Please free up all your inbox mails (both at webmail and Outlook Express end) and send a fresh test mail and check. If you have important mails in your inbox, then either create a new folder in your mail client and move all inbox mails to the new folder or forward to some other mail account such as Hotmail, Yahoo, etc, and check.

You have mentioned that mails are received once in webmail and twice in Outlook Express.

Your webmail probably uses IMAP protocol to fetch mails from your server whereas Outlook Express uses POP3 protocol.

So, please try configuring your mail account in other mail clients such as Microsoft Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.

Thunderbird 1.5(Size 6 MB) is a free email client, which can be downloaded from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird/.

If you receive mails correctly in the other mail client, then your Outlook Express mailbox may be corrupted. Create a new account in your Outlook Express and check now.

If the problem persists with some other mail client too, then the trouble lies with the mailbox at your ISP's end.

Please send a mail to the support group of your ISP. At times, some mails behave erratically, so it is better that problematic mails are deleted in your ISP mailbox by the ISP support person. (customerservice@vsnl.co.in )
