Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Upgrading to IE7
I am using a P IV, 2.6GHz 512 MB RAM system with Windows XP SP2 loaded. I would like to know what the new add-ons in IE7 are, at user level. Is is worth moving from IE6 to IE7 or Firefox? S. Aarti It is worth moving to IE7 because a lot of new features are available. For starters, IE7 is a simplified experience for the user. If you look at the top bar, you will notice that refresh, home, print, etc, on the left, are no longer there. In their place are the back and forward buttons. The URL bar is extended, and refresh and stop are now mini-buttons next to it. IE7 offers advanced printing. The system scales the printed Web page so as to ensure that it is not wider than the paper it is to be printed on. It offers a multi-page print preview and option to print the selected text only. Web searches using your favourite search provider can be entered into a search box within the toolbar, doing away with separate toolbars. You can choose a provider from the dropdown list or add more providers. With its tabbed browsing, the user can view multiple sites in a single browser window. These are just a few of the features. For more information please refer http://www.microsoft.com/ windows/ie/ie7/about/ features/default.mspx IE7 comes along with the Operation System. You can install FireFox 2 by downloading it from the mozilla site URL: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/. http://www.lifehacker.com/software/ie7/ie7-vs-firefox-2--the-memory-usage-showdown-208908.php As per this site, Fire Fox uses more memory than IE7. For the differences between IE7 and Firefox, please see: http://www.bit-tech.net/bits/2006/08/22/internet_explorer_7_v_firefox_/1.html, http://crave.cnet.co.uk/software/ 0,39029471,49284641,00.htm
