Uninstalling freeware file

I am using a p-III system with Windows XP service pack 2 as operating system.

While browsing the Web, I download freeware from the Internet, and install them.

But what is happening is that, while uninstalling many of them, I am not able to completely remove them from the system. The freeware always leaves a folder in the program files folder. When I try to manually delete these folders, I get a message saying, "Access Denied". Please suggest a solution.

To uninstall the program, normally, one needs to click Start - Settings - Control Panel - Add or remove Programs. Please select the required application to uninstall and Click Remove. But at times, even if you uninstall the application, it leaves the folder in the program files folder. This can occur if you do not have the permission necessary to delete the file under the NTFS file system. To solve this issue, please login as administrator or a member of administrator group and delete the folder. Hope this solves your problem.

If the trouble still persists, you can try some third party software. Unlocker is freeware software that will be helpful in the following error messages.

Cannot delete file: Access is denied

Cannot delete Folder: It is being used by another person or program.

There has been a sharing violation.

The source or destination file may be in use.

The file is in use by another program or user.

Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use. Unlocker1.8.5.exe (Size 192 KB) may be downloaded from

http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/

Now, install the Unlocker software. In order to delete a problematic folder, just right-click the folder or file and select Unlocker. If the folder or file is locked, a window listing of lockers will appear. Simply click "Unlock All". This solves your problem.
