Site access problem

While surfing at home, I was earlier able to connect to https pages and check sites as part of official work. But for some time now, I have been unable to access these sites. Please suggest a solution.

Ramon Capiro

To solve thisproblem, please do the following: First, open Internet Explorer and verify the encryption level (Cipher Strength). To do this, please click Help - About Internet Explorer. The level of encryption on your computer, you will notice, appears next to the words `Cipher Strength'. Now you will need to verity that the Cipher Strength value is given as 128-bit. If it is not, you will need to download and install the encryption pack appropriate for your operating system. This will upgrade your computer to 128-bit encryption.

Please ensure that the date and time settings on your computer are correct. If you are using personal firewalls such as Windows ICF, Zone Labs or Sygate personal Firewall, temporarily disable them. Also turn off the pop-up blocker temporarily.

Next, delete the temporary Internet files. Click Tools - Internet Options - General tab - Under Temporary Internet files, click "Delete Cookies" and then "Delete Files". Click ok when you are prompted. Under History, please click "Clear History" and ok. Next click Advanced tab. Under Security, please select the check boxes of Use SSL 2.0 and Use SSL 3.0 and click ok.

Next, you will need to click Security tab - click "Trusted Sites"(Green tick) and then click "Default Level". Now add the https site to the trusted sites zone.

To do this, please click Sites - type the URL of the site in the "Add this Web site to the zone" box, click Add, click OK, and then click Apply.

Next clear the SSL state and Autocomplete history. To do this, please click the "Content" tab. Under Certificates, click "Clear SSL State" (applies Windows XP) and click ok. Next under Personal Information click "AutoComplete" button. Click "Clear Forms" and "Clear Passwords". Click ok.

Temporarily disable third-party browser extensions and check whether this solves your problem. To disable these, Open IE - Click Tools - Internet Options - Advanced tab - Click to clear (uncheck) the "Enable third-party browser extensions" and click ok. Restart IE and check now.

Please verify that the Microsoft Cryptographic Services service is started. To start this, click Start - Run - type "net start cryptsvc" and click ok. Please check whether this solves your problem.

If the trouble still persists, you may have to re-register some dll files. To do this, please click Start - Run - type cmd - ok. This will bring up the command prompt. At the command prompt, type the following lines and press Enter after each line:

regsvr32 softpub.dll

regsvr32 wintrust.dll

regsvr32 initpki.dll

regsvr32 dssenh.dll

regsvr32 rsaenh.dll

regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll

regsvr32 sccbase.dll

regsvr32 slbcsp.dll

regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll

The next option is create a new user account in your system and login as new user and check after doing that Probably your user profile might have got corrupted.

If you still face a problem, the next option is to use System File Checker (sfc) with the /scannow option. You will need to login as administrator or member of the administrator group to run sfc. To do this, please click Start - Run - cmd - ok. This will bring up the command prompt. Type sfc /scannow to start System File Checker.
