Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off IE error message
I regularly surf the Internet. Of late, I have been getting the following message: "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to be closed. We are sorry for the inconvenience." The message offers two options: Send error report and Don't send. If I click on "don't send", then the Web page I am surfing at that moment closes and I am forced to reopen the Web page. Same is the result when I click on `send error report.' The error report contains the following: Application name:explorer.exe Application version:6.0.2900.2180 Mod name:kernel32.dll Mod version:0.0.0.0 offset:0000468c Why is this problem cropping up? Please suggest a solution. Vishal This Explorer error may arise in several situations. In order to solve this problem, please do the following. First install and run any anti-spyware tools. The following are some free anti-spyware tools. Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition 1.06 (size 4.12 MB), can be downloaded from http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4 (size 4.8MB), can be downloaded from http://www.download.com/3000-8022- 10122137.html Next, make sure you have installed the latest service pack in Windows XP. To check the Service pack level, please click Start - Run - type "Winver" in the open box. The second line will show the service pack information. For Windows XP, at least service pack 2 is required. Next, you need to scan your system for the latest Windows updates. To do this, Please open this URL: www.windowsupdate.com. If the "Windows Update" Acitvex component is not installed already on your system then it will prompt "Security Warning" dialog box to install the activex component. Click Yes to install the activex component and follow the instructions. Next click the "Express" button to find and install only the most important updates for your computer.
