IE error message

I regularly surf the Internet. Of late, I have been getting the following message: "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to be closed. We are sorry for the inconvenience." The message offers two options: Send error report and Don't send. If I click on "don't send", then the Web page I am surfing at that moment closes and I am forced to reopen the Web page. Same is the result when I click on `send error report.' The error report contains the following: Application name:explorer.exe Application version:6.0.2900.2180 Mod name:kernel32.dll Mod version:0.0.0.0 offset:0000468c

Why is this problem cropping up? Please suggest a solution.
