Telecommunications Industry & Economy - Health As safe as it can be Preethi J
Are mobiles really hazardous to health? Mobile phones use electromagnetic waves in the microwave range. A common fear amongst mobile users in the country is that the activity affects brain waves. Others worry that the gadget would have an adverse thermal effect on the body. eWorld asked a scientist who specialises in microwave theory. Visiting German scientist Dr Ingo Wolff said, "There is a 90 per cent chance that mobiles have no influence on health. Repeated experiments to confirm that use of mobile phone has caused cancer, as claimed by some reports, have failed. And while there are studies and discussions happening across the world on this topic, I believe it all boils down to fear of new technology." Dr Wolff is the founder and president of the Institute for Mobile and Satellite Communication Service (IMST), Germany.
