Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Problem with video files
My system configuration is as follows: Intel G965 Chipset, Windows Vista Business, Intel Core 2 - 1.86 GHZ, 1 GB, HP DVD Writer 735 d ATA Device. I am unable to open any video files, including those that came with the Vista installation CD, using media player. I get the following message: “Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.” To resolve this problem, I downloaded vista codecs_436 from free codec site. Even this did not help. Further, my microphone does not respond but is shown as working in the status tab. Please suggest a solution. Rammohan Roy This problem may be solved if you install the codec pack. You must uninstall any previous versions before upgrading to the new codec pack. Please try the following free codec pack. K-Lite codec pack from http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm. (27 MB size). VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/mirror.php?file=vlc/0.8.6b/win32/vlc-0.8.6b-win32.exe (9 MB size) If your computer is running the Windows XP operating system with Windows Media Player 11 for Windows XP installed and you upgrade to the Windows Vista operating system, you must uninstall and then reinstall URGE in Windows Vista to use the URGE online store in Windows Media Player 11 in Windows Vista. To uninstall URGE in Windows Vista, please do the following: Click Start and then click Control Panel. Under Programs, click Uninstall a program. Click URGE, and then click Uninstall. In the Programs and Features dialog box, click Yes to confirm. To reinstall URGE in Windows Media Player 11 in Windows Vista, please do the following: Click Start, and then click Windows Media Player. Click the arrow below the Online Stores tab, and then click URGE. Follow the steps to install URGE. For more information, please refer to the Microsoft Windows Media Player 11 readme page http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/readme.aspx
