Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Error message
I installed a new hard disk some time ago and it was working fine until recently. Now, I am unable to create a folder and copy other drives’ folder to ‘F’ Drive. The system displays an error message: “Delayed Write Failed." Windows XP SP2 is my operating system. ” Please suggest a solution. Vishnu Vikram
The Delayed Write Failed Error may be due to data corruption. It occurs if the Large System Cache feature is enabled in Windows XP. This problem does not occur on all systems. Factors that lead to data corruption include: System memory greater than 512 MB, Large NTFS disk volumes, AGP graphics with large AGP resource requirements, large file transfers. This problem occurs when the computer runs out of system page table entries based on the amount of system memory available. To avoid it, please ensure the System Cache option is not selected for Memory usage. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties to open the System Properties dialog box. Click the Advanced tab, and then under Performance, click Settings. In that, click the Advanced tab, Under Memory Usage, click to select Programs, Click ok. This problem occurs when the data redirector of a system flushes the contents of the file, and writes to a file handle with read-only access, instead of to a file handle with write access. If you can do some changes in the registry this problem might be solved, but before doing so, please take a backup of the registry. Click Start, Run, in that type regedit, and then press Enter. In Registry Editor, locate the following subkey in the registry: ‘HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ LanmanServer\Parameters”. In the right pane, click Enable Oplocks, and then press Enter. In the Value data box, please type 0, and then press Enter. Quit Registry Editor. If the registry entry is not available, you can manually create it by right-clicking New, select DWORD value and giving the name as EnableOplocks. Open computer management and select disk management. In the right pane, please select the drive, right click and select ‘change the drive letter and path.’ In that, click change and select some other letter for that drive, then click ok. Then restart your machine. This might work. If it doesn’t, you can analyse and defragment your hard disk by going to start programs, Accessories, system Tools, then selecting Disk Defragmenter. In the disk defragmenter window, please select your partition (either C: or D:) then select Analyse which is at the bottom of the window. It will analyse the selected drive and give the report. Then select defragment. It is a system utility for analysing local volumes and locating and consolidating fragmented files and folders. After defragmenting your drive, you can check your hard disk for any bad sectors. For this, please open “My Computer” select the drive you want to check, then click properties and in the properties box, select Tools. In that, select Check now under Error-Checking option. If you find any bad sector in the hard disk, you will need to remove it. There are third party tools on the Internet to remove bad sectors. If the problem persists even after using these tools, , you may have to change the hard disk.
