Just ToonDoo it

A site for bloggers, cartoonists – and the rest of us who can’t be the artist we would like to be.

For avid bloggers, cartoonists and anyone interested in creating funky toon strips to enliven their Web pages or blog spaces, http://www.toondoo.com/./Home.do, backed by US-based software company AdventNet Inc, has many interesting options, all for free. http://www.toondoo.com/./

Home.do is a new, Web-based, free service that lets one create one’s own own comic strips online, share them and embed them in blogs and Web sites. The site is especially for those who aren’t quite the artist they would like to be. All it requires is a drag and drop or a click and you have comic strips that express views, opinions, angst or simple fun. Sometimes contests too are announced and though there might not be trophies to show off, winners stand a chance of being featured in the ToonDoo Hall of Fame.

Type in the URL and the page, though colourful and full of funky looking creations and toon characters, loads easily. The instructions are precise and easy to use. The site is completely in English, but the creators have made sure that navigation is simple and all that you might need is easily searchable. Though the creators are thinking of implementing an OpenID (a decentralised single sign-on system that doesn’t require a username and password), the site requires registration and users will have to log in to start creating. It has nearly 1,800 characters, props and backgrounds, enables the creation of 1, 2 or 3-panel comic strips and also customise characters, props and speech bubbles. These features make it ideal for school projects too.
