For that edge in the exam

This Web site says it can make exam preparation fruitful and fun.

Making the grade.

For many, Class X exams are probably the toughest, because that is the first public exam they face. You can never be too ready or too well prepared.

To add to all the material anxious parents might have already got comes extramarks.com, a site that seeks to provide that extra bit of support.

The system involves teachers and parents and they, along with the student, can access the required information independently as well as in collaboration. Many of the services are free, such as chatting with peers and exchanging information.

The site allows students individualised coaching with experts and a network wherein students can communicate and interact with peers across the country.

Extramarks experts are available from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., Monday to Friday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and all holidays.

While at present this service is free, it might be charged a nominal amount later.

Future plans include the setting up of a white board and other peer interaction facilities. The registration is free and the rest of the information contained in the site can be accessed by points purchased online.

The contents are classified clearly under different heads, such as ‘Ask a teacher’ and “Chapterwise Q & A.” The site is easy to navigate and loads fast. The ‘Ask a counsellor’ section is interesting and might provide succour in dealing with the usual case of nerves before such exams.

But lessons are not all the site offers. There’s space to blog and some games to play too. So log on to find elusive answers as well as network with peers around the country. Exam time will probably never be this fun again!

Atul Kulshrestha, Chairman of Extramarks.com, tells eWorld, “Extramarks provides a learning platform for students, focused towards improving individual capabilities through practice papers and guidance by subject matter experts in real time, after school hours everyday. It is a networked community of like-minded people who are committed to help students excel.

The community has three key components. The peer to peer network of students allows students to bond with and help each other.

The network of teachers and parents helps them collaborate.

Students can use the database chapter-wise and subject-wise content.”
