Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Intel original motherboard display I have used Intel original motherboard in my PC. This information used to get displayed in my old PC but not in my new one. Why is it so? Please explain. S.K.SUHANE When the system boots, the BIOS start the POST (Power-on self-test) program. This is nothing but the software routines that test the attached hardware devices (such as RAM, hard disk, display, etc) and then the operating system boots. BIOS allows you to change the settings of the hardware peripherals. To enter into the BIOS, while switching on the system, you may need to tap any one of the following keys DEL, F1, F2 etc. This BIOS access key may vary depending on the BIOS manufacturer, such as AMI, AWARD or Dell. Under options, you may see entries such as Silent Boot and Intel Rapid BIOS Boot. You may enable or disable this option as per your requirement. If you enable the "Intel Rapid BIOS Boot" option, it allows BIOS to skip certain tests while booting. This will decrease the time needed to boot the system. Another option is called, "Silent Boot". If you enable this, it Displays OEM (mother board) Logo instead of POST message. If you disable this, it displays the normal POST message. In your old PC, the "Silent Boot" option might have been enabled, thus it displayed the OEM ("Intel Original motherboard") screen instead of the normal POST message. In your new machine, this option might be disabled hence it doesn't show the OEM Logo. SOLUTION BY M. SAMPATH More Stories on : Computer Usage | Tip Off
