Browsing trouble

I got DataOne installed recently (HomePlan250) in the USB Port of my PC System with UT300R2U ADSL2+. (Quick-Start Guide in the package calls it Modem and BSNL Chart refers to it as ADSL Router). There are five Green flicker lamps, in this order: (i). Power (ii) DSL (iii) Internet (iv) Ethernet (v) USB. When switched on, the first lamp glows OK. Then USB, DSL lamps start flickering, then the Internet lamp. The DataOne icon appears in the task bar. I am able to browse and download. No problem when I switch on and browse between 5.00 a.m. and 5.30 a.m.or between 2.30 p.m. and 3.30. But during the rest of the day, the power lamp is ‘On’ and the USB lamp glows with or without flickering. The other two (DSN and Internet) remain ‘off’. The icon that appears in the task bar status shows “bytes received and bytes sent” but browsing is not possible. When browsing is satisfactory and downloading is just fine for about 45 minutes or so, sudden interruption occurs sometimes. The USB lamp alone flickers. The middle two lamps are ‘off’ and browsing is not possible. Switching off and then switching on power sometime later is helpful occasionally but not always. Please suggest a solution.

In a broadband Internet set-up, the telephone line is connected to the ADSL modem and a connection from ADSL modem is connected to the computer. The physical connectivity between computer and ADSL modem is either through a network cable or through a USB cable. In case of network cable, there is a network adapter in the computer and it is connected to the network port of the ADSL modem. For the USB connection, the ADSL modem’s USB port is connected to the USB port of the computer. For this, a virtual network adapter is installed in the computer. This is done using the ADSL modem CD while configuring the ADSL modem in the computer for the first time. The configuration of this virtual network adapter is the same as the real network adapter. Broadband Internet functions only when the connectivity between computer and ADSL modem and ADSL link is all right.

The ADSL modem CD documentation will clearly explain what the status of the LED indicates. Generally, the Power LED shows the status of the Power to the ADSL modem. The DSL and Internet display the ADSL Link status. The Ethernet LED displays the status of the Ethernet connectivity to the computer. The USB LED displays the USB connectivity to the computer. The Ethernet and USB LED blink indicates some data traffic between the computer and the ADSL modem. Whenever broadband Internet is not ok, please check for the physical connectivity between computer and the ADSL modem. Check the virtual network adapter status in the computer. Try opening the configuration page of the ADSL modem by typing http://192.168.1.1 from the browser window. The IP address 192.168.1.1 is the default IP address for the ADSL modem unless otherwise changed. If the page fails to open, please check the connectivity by using the ping command.

Open a command prompt and enter the command ping 192.168.1.1 If you get a reply, the link is ok, otherwise please check the interface status using commands such as ipconfig -all and arp -a from command prompt

If the modem connectivity is all right but broadband Internet is not, then please inform your Internet service provider that the ADSL link is not all right.
