Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Saving password setting I registered my Web domain, and have subscribed to business mail via VSNL. Although I have configured my two mail accounts, they show errors at times. (I still am able to send and receive mail). My Incoming server is: pop.sme.vsnl.com My outgoing server is: smtp2.sme.vsnl.com My Internet connection is from BSNL. Every time I open Outlook, there's a pop up that says, `Enter network password,' with space for server name, user name and password. Despite my filling the above spaces, the pop-up reappears. The customer support executives are unable to help. Please suggest a solution. BHAVNA NAGESH From your query I assume two e-mail accounts (VSNL) have been configured in Outlook. You have mentioned that if you press send/receive button, the system some times shows errors. This may happen due to the pop/smtp server being busy at that moment. So you could try after a minute or two. Regarding the pop-up that prompts you to enter the network password repeatedly, you say that you are still able to send and receive mail. This problem may be due to one of your SMTP mail accounts' password being incorrect. To address this issue, you will first have to configure your two e-mail accounts in different profiles, please do not keep them in a single profile. This way, you can test both individually. Please send a test mail to your configured email account and verify whether you receive mail. While configuring the mail account, in the "Enter Network Password" dialog box, do not enable the "Remember Password" option. Once you confirm you receive mail, enable (tick) this "Remember Password" option. So, in future, it will not prompt for Server password when you open Outlook. If you do not get the test mail, and get "Enter Network Password" pop-up repeatedly, then please do the following. First temporarily disable your windows firewall (Personal firewall) and the Email Auto- Protect Settings of your Anti-virus product. Now send a test mail and check whether this solves your problem. If it still exists, please change your ISP server password and check whether this helps. To change e-mail account password, please refer http://mybusiness.vsnl.in/ faq_businessmail.aspx#16 If still unsuccessful, please start Outlook in safe mode and repeat the test. To open in safe mode, follow these steps: For Windows 2000/XP/2003, click Start - Run. In the open box, type "outlook.exe /safe" (without quotes) and click ok. For Windows Vista, type "outlook.exe /safe" in the Start Search box and press Enter. In safe mode Outlook runs without any other non-Microsoft service. If Outlook runs correctly in safe mode, chances are that the issue is caused by a third-party service that is working with Outlook (for example, add-ins, Anti-virus software, or firewalls).
