Interview Logistics - Software Towards the best blend
Avner Schneur R. SAVITHA Companies are constantly looking for ways to boost their productivity even while cutting costs. And efficient management of the supply chain is seen as making a big difference in this context. Avner Schneur, President and Chief Executive Officer of Emptoris Inc, shares insights, in an interview with eWorld. Excerpts : With the supply management space having so many players already, what is Emptoris' USP? Our solution for supply chain management offers a combination of software and scientific mathematical algorithms (based on Linear Programming discipline) This enables customers to not only analyse a high volume of data but also to run various scenarios to find the optimal total cost of ownership and allow the vendor to innovate and provide the best product and services mix to the customer. There has been a lot of vendor consolidations in this space and key players include SAP, Oracle and Ariba. Do you cater to certain specific areas? Our solutions are not restricted to any specific verticals. We have large, global customers in various industries, including High-Tech, Manufacturing, Life Sciences/Pharma, Consumer Goods/Retail, Healthcare, Financial Services, Telecom, Media, Oil/Gas/Energy, Aerospace/ Defence and more. We have built-in templates, business rules, work flows and hundreds of configuration options that can be used, adapted and/or modified to create industry as well as business-specific solutions. About your clients. About 40 per cent of our revenues come from international customers. They are largely in Europe and a few in the Asia-Pacific region. Specifically for India, we started sales activities toward the latter half of 2007. This is just the beginning. India has a huge potential for such solutions - given the sustained GDP growth and the globalisation of Indian businesses. We have already signed up with a Tier 1 pharmaceutical major in India for implementing our solution. What is the current market for these solutions? Our research indicates that less than 10 per cent of the Fortune 5000 have adopted holistic solutions. Companies are realising the value potential in such solutions. We believe a lot of adoption will happen over the next few years in growing mid-sized companies, a lot of them in emerging markets. The potential is very large. Is your sales strategy based on channel partners? About 30 per cent of the deals are generated through our partner network. We have strong relationships with our partners who include IBM, Accenture, CapGemini and Fuji Xerox. On the action in India. We have a large centre in Pune and about 60 per cent of our work force is located in the Pune office. This is a 100 per cent subsidiary and incorporated as Emptoris Technologies India Pvt Ltd. The product research and development activities in Pune include engineering lifecycle responsibilities, product analysis and specifications, architecture, design, development, certification/rollout, Technical documentation, Translation and Program management. savitharin@gmail.comMore Stories on : Interview | Software | Supply Chain Management
