.Net Framework installation

For the past one month, I have been trying to install ‘.NET Framework,Version 2.0 (KB928365)’ but have failed.

The download is from Microsoft. My system configuration is as follows: Windows XP, Service pack – 2, 256 RAM, HD-40 GB, Net - IE - 7, Pentium - iv, BSNL Broadband-home 125. Please suggest a solution.

P.B. Dayalan

If the .Net framework installation fails, please remove the .Net manually and reinstall it again.

Before uninstalling a particular version of .Net, please make sure you shut down the software that requires that version of .Net.

Disable the software to start on reboot and reboot the computer.

If you try to uninstall the .Net without shutting down the software, then you may get an error when uninstalling.

To uninstall .Net, please click Start, then click Settings, “Control Panel”. Click open “Add Remove Programs”. Note each version of .Net Framework that is already installed in the computer.

Uninstall each version of the .Net framework.

If you are prompted, restart the computer and then complete the removal of all versions of .Net Framework. Clean up the MSI database state of all versions of .Net Framework using the windows installer CleanUp Utility.

This can be downloaded from the following URL: http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe.

After downloading it, start “Windows Install Cleanup” and remove all the windows installer applications for the .Net Framework. Restart the computer.

Download and reinstall all the versions of .Net Framework that were installed in the computer. Please look up http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923100 for the detailed procedure.

If windows update is ‘On’,. then there is a possibility of failed Security update for .Net framework, Version 2.0 (KB928365).

Turn off the windows automatic update, then remove and reinstall all the versions of .Net Framework.

Finally, turn ‘on’ the windows automatic update. A .Net Framework automatic Cleanup tool is available.

It can be downloaded from this URL: http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/05/30/611355.aspx.
