‘Snap’ goes your photo

Hewlett-Packard says its site can help the user store and share photos – and memories.

Share that moment. - Anand Sankar

Sharing photos online isn’t new but there are new sites coming up that might make the concept of storing your photos and creating new stuff with them a joy.

Snapfish, for instance, offers to help you create albums and personalised stationery. But you may have more questions.

Let Bala Parthasarthy, Vice-President, Online Imaging, HP Asia Pacific & Japan & co-founder, Snapfish, answer them.

How does Snapfish work? How does one create albums and personalised stuff?

Snapfish was recently launched in India, customised specially for the Indian market ( www.snapfish.co.in). It is an online photo finishing portal.

You can download pictures from your digital camera to your computer or laptop. Logon to http://www.snapfish.in, create an account and upload your photos. You can upload unlimited photos to your account, which is free, and share the same with friends.

Consumers can also enjoy printing photo-based gifts with their favourite photos on key chains, mugs, T-shirts, mouse pads, photo greeting cards, posters, calendars and coasters by placing an order on the HP Snapfish Web site.

How do I know strangers aren’t going through my stuff?

Snapfish is 100 per cent safe. We don’t disclose customer information to anyone. The pictures uploaded are accessible by that particular account only.

Photos can be shared with friends and family with an option to enable or disable re-share of photos.

How is Snapfish different from other concepts like this on the Net, such as Flickr?

Flickr is about storing and sharing. In contrast, Snapfish is a photo finishing portal that offers consumers free online photo sharing, unlimited storage and professionally developed digital camera prints for Rs 2.95 only (4x6 size).

Snapfish is a critical component of HP’s broader digital photography strategy — centred on delivering world class digital photography experience that now expands our play from the home.

By providing a more comprehensive solution for the consumer, we expect to drive more sharing, more image preservation, and more printing overall.

What are the future improvements you have planned on Snapfish?

Recently, we announced the launch of Flip Books and Collage Posters as a means to celebrate Mother’s Day.

Comprising five to 30 pages, a flip book is a gift option that captures fond memories for Rs 59!

A collage poster is available in sizes of 11x 14 for Rs 99! We aim to help our consumers enjoy the “click – share – print” experience!

Plan to log into snapfish? Share your experiences with our readers.
