Internet Industry & Economy - Education Learn together Paromita Pain LearnHub.com might be an educational portal but it works the way Facebook, Myspace and Orkut work — it brings together people, those who want to share learning and knowledge. Malgosia Green, Co-founder & CEO, LearnHub, believes that “today, collaborative learning is the next level in learning-teaching applications.” LearnHub caters to school, college students, independent tutors, educational institutes and has special sections devoted to students applying for studying abroad. Community Managers How different is this site from the many e-learning sites today? Malgosia Green says, “Unlike other sites, LearnHub uses Community Managers to direct users to communities, content, marketplace listings and workspaces. So there is minimal waste of time. Most of its features are entirely free. Its Live Tutoring Platform incorporates audio and visual connection technology with an interactive whiteboard that allows students and teachers to collaborate with minimum hassle.” Student can register on LearnHub and join communities and courses to access content. Teachers can register on the site through an online sign-up process. Since the initiative is developed in conjunction with education major Educomp, registration will allow students and facilitators access to Educomp libraries. The site provides advanced search tools to find content of choice. Some of the content, though, is payment dependent. “The charges of these paid sections are decided by the owners of sections without any payment to LearnHub”, says Green. Users can create profiles, author lessons using a simple editor, upload videos and powerpoint presentations. A lot of the content is user-generated. These pages are publicly available under various communities. The site can be used by content providers to showcase their content globally. The sections with the multiple choice questions help track users’ progress. The site encourages debate and the creation of communities to bring together people of similar interests. The Trivia section, with its question bank, can be quite addictive.
