More chrome for your reading pleasure

Are your eyes blinded by all that chrome? Yes, I mean the Google Chrome browser.

The browser has received more than its share of bouquets and brickbats, and a few balanced reviews.

If, like me, you simply went to the Google Chrome Web site and clicked on the “Download Google Chrome” button and left it at that, you missed something.

Click on “learn about Google Chrome” and you will see a page that has a few videos for demo-ing some of the new features.

There’s also a now-standard video in which the development team talks about the thinking and features behind the new browser. There’s also a comic book that explains the technology in the browser.

Now, the interesting thing is that Google uses its own services — such as YouTube for its videos — but the Chrome browser doesn’t support the Google toolbar yet (at the time of writing).

Google’s sense of humour is famous (we look forward to Fools’ day to see what they come up with) and that is true of Chrome as well.

A crashed tab shows a suitable emoticon with “Aw, Snap!” and displaying the error message.

And according to cnet ( http://www.cnet.com; check under the tab “Everything Google Chrome” in the home page, or search for it), there is an easter egg in the browser.

But Google might not relish The Register’s sense of humour when it comes to Chrome (run a search for “Google’s comic capers” at http://www.theregister.co.uk, and click on the search result with that headline).
