Block annoying Ads

While browsing, don’t you wish you could simply block out all those annoying advertisements and banners?

Well, it is possible with a plug-in (add-ons) or third-party utility.

If you are using Firefox browser, just install the free plug-in “Adblock plus 0.7.5.5” (Size 234 KB) to keep annoying ads at bay. To install this, navigate to this URL: http://adblockplus.org/en/installation and click the link “Install Adblock Plus 0.7.5.4.” This will prompt you to install the software.

Just click the “Allow” button and then click “Install Now” button.

To block a banner, right-click on any image or frame and choose “Adblock …” from the context menu. Now you can see a dialog box where you can tweak the new filter before adding details.

You can also replace parts of the banner’s address with wildcards (*). This will make the filter block other banners with similar address.

You can enable or disable “Adblock plus” for a particular Web page, Web site or permanently.

To do this, please click on the arrow of the Adblock Plus icon in the toolbar to bring up the menu. There you have the option to disable or enable Adblock plus. Otherwise simply press the middle mouse button on this ABP icon, this will also enable or disable Adblock plus.

To get rid of Flash and java objects, it has an option called “Show tabs on Flash and Java”.

When activated (the default), it will display a button saying, “Block” at the upper right corner of every object. Clicking this button will block the object.

For more information please look up the FAQ section at http://adblockplus.org/en/faq_basics.

You can also click the “show me how this is done” link for visual demonstrations.

Add-on for IE7

If you are using Internet Explorer, you can download IE7Pro (freeware - size 2.36 MB) from http://www.download.com/IE7Pro/3000-12777_4-10649334.html.

This is an add-on for IE 7 and offers features that can be used to customise it to your liking. It also includes ad blocker.
