This Web site seeks to keep students in Indian universities updated on opportunities..

“When was the last time you knew of a great opportunity — only too late?” asks Nitin Rao, founder of the portal, Let Me Know ( http://www.LetMeKnow.in).

A number of students in Indian universities miss out on opportunities simply because they never hear of them. Organisers of events or even recruiters, in turn, miss the opportunity to reach a broader talent pool. Let Me Know seeks to share information with the Indian youth and overcome gaps in information.

“At the StartingBloc Global Institute for Social Innovation at London Business School in July 2007, I presented my idea for ‘Let Me Know’. This was followed by a prototype that ran for a year from November 2007 — helping young people while giving us a deep understanding of what students were really looking for. Finally, in December 2008, the portal was launched,” says Rao.

The site is easy to navigate. It offers information students would want, such as technical fests, cultural fests, literary events, volunteering, internships, scholarships, workshops and more. It offers searchable listing of opportunities — be it in technology, literature, culture, business, internships or scholarships. It also has a sub-portal to introduce readers to social entrepreneurship.

You need to sign in with your Yahoo or Gmail ID.

One major problem was putting together a team that would work for this portal. “I’ve been fortunate to work with an extremely committed student team, led by Muhamed Sanaulla at NIT, Karnataka Surathkal”, says Rao.

Rao’s tips for getting the best out of the site are simple. “Keep a close track of updates on opportunities of your interest through our personalised alerts. Use our advanced search to drill down to what you are looking for. And if there’s something specific you are still looking for, feel free to write to our team.”

‘Let Me Know’ partners with students across Indian universities, StartingBloc Fellows across the world, Think Change India — blog on social innovation in India — as well as their sister organisation, Engineers for Social Impact. “We assimilate content through contributions from event organisers and from efforts of a dedicated university-based student blogging team led by Mohamed Sanaulla and have had over 700 subscribers to our RSS/e-mail feeds,” says Rao.

Future plans include making the project sustainable in three areas — content assimilation strategy, internal team structure and a financially viable model.
