Internet Columns - Come Again! Learn and share No longer do we think of visiting libraries or spending hours copying stuff when we want some information. The first point of search now is the Internet. It’s enough if you know how to ‘copy’ and ‘paste’. But how much do you use the Internet for learning? Learning doesn’t mean using your favourite search engine to find what you want. The Internet also allows you to explore. Again, there is no need to restrict yourself to search engines for exploring. You can also learn from social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Orkut or Myspace. You can also help others learn by sharing links through the social networks. Social networks can be used to share and receive information. Of course, you have to avoid getting dragged into pointless games and applications that ‘help’ you ‘find who you are’. You can learn a lot by following tweets and social network links of CEOs, Ministers and top newspaper Editors. If you are fortunate enough to be their friend in social networks, there is nothing like it. The links they provide can be a minefield of information. You can also join groups or Fan Pages in social networks where you can discuss and share information. There are dictionaries and encyclopaedias, apart from Wikipedia, that are free. And there are blogs. There are blogs specialising in different fields you can tap for information. You can also help others learn or explore by sharing links and pages you find interesting. Almost all newspapers and blogs have links for sharing articles or blog posts through e-mail or through social networks. So the next time you visit Facebook or follow tweets, remember there is much more to them than building friendships.
