The new government at the Centre should encourage projects that enlarge the scope of participation in CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) and thereby enable the country to earn carbon credits worth billions of dollars every year, said Director of the Institute of Solid Waste Research and Ecological Balance N Kalidas.
It is a private institute that has popularised the use of hollow bricks and helped in the setting up of many units in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Kalidas said the Oxford University had projected an opportunity for India to earn over $35 billion by way of carbon credits. China has taken up the issue seriously and encourages its industry to pursue carbon credit projects. It is earning billions of dollars every year. He called upon the Modi Government to identify and encourage such projects.
