ITC Hotels-run ITC Grand Chola in Chennai has secured a 5-star GRIHA rating. The recognition was presented by President Pranab Mukherjee.

GRIHA is the highest national rating for green buildings and was conceived by The Energy Research Institute (TERI) and the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

According to a release issued by ITC, the 600-key hotel has been the first in the country to secure a 5-star rating from the Association for Development and Research of Sustainable Habitats (ADaRSH).

Grand Chola was rated on 34 criteria, categorised under various sections including site selection and planning, conservation, utilisation of resources and building operation & maintenance.

According to the release, 100 per cent of the Grand Chola’s energy requirements are met through renewable sources. Nearly cent per cent of the waste water in the hotel is also re-used.
