The Empowered Group of Ministers meeting to decide the modalities of sugar exports and other food-related issues has been postponed. Reasons for postponement of the meet, scheduled on Wednesday, were not known. The new date for the meet is yet to be decided, sources said.
The meeting was also expected to consider allowing further sugar exports of one million tonnes, as demanded by the industry. It was also to decide on the modalities of shipments for the exports of one million tonnes approved at the last meeting on March 26.
In the current sugar marketing year, the Government has so far approved sugar exports of 3 million tonnes, including the one million tonnes for notification is yet to be issued.
