Hyderabad, July 7:
Directorate of Rice Research and Acharya N G Ranga Agricultural University will hold an international seminar on 'Dialogue on Designer Rice' on July 9 and 10.
To be held at International Crops Research Institute for Semi Arid Tropics, the event would see 10 experts from six countries and top Indian scientists discussing the topic.

Designer rice is a conceptual idea to enhance the value and use of rice as a food,food
supplement,medicine and wellness product which uses less water,has root nodules as
legumes to manufacture it's own nitrogen and has endophytic bacteria to solubilise
phosphatic fertilizer.Designer rice may be impregnated with genes for iron(golden
rice),carotene and has hypoglycemic properties to enable diabetic patients to consume
rice.It will be fibrous as vegetable.The rice can grow under shade etc.Fragrant
rice,medicinal rice,hill rice etc would be the genetic base to tailor the designer
rice.Japanese rice is very special and well protected.Let us await the deliberations.
