The January 2013 production data of Kenya, Sri Lanka, Malawi and Bangladesh have come out even as India’s figures are confined to December 2012.
These data show that 2013 has begun on an encouraging note. “According to our compilation, global black tea production in January has increased to 74.78 million kg (mkg) from 65.17 mkg in January 2012”, Rajesh Gupta, Publisher of annual Global Tea Digest, told Business Line.
This increase of 9.61 mkg posts a growth of 14.75 per cent. Kenya has produced 45.39 mkg – up by 9.18 mkg over January 2012. Sri Lanka’s output has risen by 0.80 mkg to reach 22.40 mkg. Bangladesh has produced 0.19 mkg – marginally up by 0.03 mkg.
On the other hand, Malawi has posted a lower output. Its production has fallen by 0.40 mkg to dip to 6 mkg.
