There has been a top-level shake-up in J Thomas & Company Pvt Ltd, the world’s oldest and largest tea auctioneers. Krishan Katyal has taken over as Chairman and Managing Director of the company.

Prior to this he was Managing Director. Katyal succeeds Ashok Batra who retired as CMD on Sunday. Talking to Business Line, Katyal said there had not been any other change at the board level; only the board strength had been reduced to seven from nine.

Along with Batra, Viveck Crishna, who was Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, too retired on Sunday.

“There is no immediate plan to fill up the vacancies”, he observed. “We are comfortable with our present board strength”. Vijay Shankar, currently Vice-Chairman and Managing Director in charge of Southern region, and C.A. Mohan, Managing Director (Finance), would continue to hold their present positions.

The four other directors on the board include Mathew C. George, K. Ashok, Ravi Suchanti and Kavi Seth.
