TRS members suspended for two days

The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly today had a long session of meaningful and yet heated debate with the opposition TDP and members of the Treasury benches engaged in wordy duel.

The House was put into order following the suspension of 11 agitating members of TRS from the house for two days. When the House assembled today, the TRS members continued to raise slogans and demanded that their cause for separate statehood be taken up in the House before any other business.

When the House met in the morning, the Assembly Speaker, Mr Nadendla Manohar, rejected all the adjournment motions but the TRS members were steadfast demanding the issue of Telangana be taken up. The House was adjourned for 30 minutes. When the House later reconvened, the situation was no different with the TRS pressing for their demand. A motion for suspension was moved and accordingly TRS members were suspended and forcibly removed by marshalls.

During the debate, the TDP Chief, Mr N.Chandrababu Naidu, said that the Government's indifference to the farm sector concerns in the backdrop of more than 130 deaths in January alone was alarming. Baring some statements and promises nothing much was done to address the problems faced by the farm sector.

He said that in spite of spending about Rs 72,000 crore as per Government records for the Jalayagnam irrigation projects hardly any fresh ayacut was brought under cultivation.

He said that the Government inherited by the Congress after he stepped out was healthy financially. If at all the Congress has increased the overall State debt to over Rs 1,61,000 crore, without spending this meaningfully.

The Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, intervening in the debate said Mr Naidu was making wild allegations against the Government and speaking without any facts.
