“Leadership is like beauty. It’s hard to define... but you know it when you see it…” Bennis R. Viswanathan, Corporate Trainer said while delivering a BL club guest lecture on leadership presented by Central Bank of India to students of management studies at Sreenivasa Institute of Technology and Management Studies, Chitoor.

Leaders are strategic thinkers who look for out-of-the-box solutions to critical issues. They look forward and create vision for followers to move forward. They challenge conventional wisdom and evolve new concepts and practices, motivate a group to perform their best even under challenging environment and also be inspirational to many.

Managers, on the other hand, generally maintain their status quo, monitor situation, merely allocate resources, communicate targets, measure the results and give feedback on the current trends, he said.

He shared his experiences of meeting several leaders, famous in their own right and their unique qualities which differentiates them from the rest to substantiate the qualities of effective leaders.

He concluded by saying that to be an effective leader, one should know where the power lies in an organisation, lead by asking questions and not by issuing instructions and advised student to know where their destination is and build reputation on their own deeds.
