Civil Aviation Secretary K.N. Srivastava has said that Air India Express (AIE) headquarters here would start functioning on New Year Day.

In case there is any space constraints, efforts should be made to find additional space in the city or at the airport on rental or lease basis, he said while speaking at a review meeting at the AIE Headquarters here.

The meeting was attended by Rohit Nandan, Chairman, Air India; K.M. Unni, Director Board member, and department heads of Air India Express.

The Civil Aviation Secretary discussed various issues the airline faces, such as shortage of pilots and technical manpower. He also analysed the level of preparedness for commencing full-fledged activities at the Kochi HQ.

The Secretary also emphasised the need to focus on passengers’ needs. He instructed that schedule integrity has to be maintained to earn passenger confidence in the airline.
