The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Monday ordered administrative sanction of an additional amount of Rs 80 crore towards the land acquisition for development of Rajahmundry Airport.

This is expected to hasten the expansion of the airport targeted at accommodating bigger flights. However, airport officials say, another at least Rs 60 crore was needed to complete the full land acquisition for expansion.

The State Government has already investment about Rs 60 crore towards setting up of new passenger amenities, including a new terminal building. These facilities are yet to be formally commissioned, but are being currently used by passengers.

The State Government will soon come out with a new Greenfield Airports Development Policy by June 2012.

As part of its initiatives to speed up development of new airports in the State, the Government has been working on a new policy that will include a new land policy for this sector.
