The State Government has evinced interest in taking a 10 per cent stake in the upcoming Rs 2,000-crore Aranmula International Airport project.
A decision in this regard is likely to be taken at the Cabinet meeting scheduled to be held on Tuesday at Thiruvananthapuram, sources close to the development said.
The 10 per cent equity in the project will provide the government with a berth in the Board of Directors of the airport company. The airport project will have a total equity portion of Rs 700 crore, the sources said.
The Aranmula airport project in Pathanamthitta district is being promoted by the Chennai-based KGS group of companies.
The company has in its possession 700 acres of land in Aranmula. The project is located at the central Travancore belt and the company is looking at the NRI population in the area for its success. It is pointed out that around 40 per cent of the air traffic of the State originates from within 40 km radius of the proposed airport.

Comments:
Sirs.
The Hindu and The Business Line are, no doubt, taken for a ride by some very influential hidden hands. I am very sorry to say this. Earlier there was some news, I prefer to call it, "Paid News" because the tone and the falsified or cleverly hidden one-sided facts. I request the concerned editors to verify the documents and facts available in the public domain before publishing such stories. There is not a single document in the public domain regarding the Rs.2000 crore project, submitted to the various ministries at the Centre or at State level. There is not even 400 acres of land with the KGS at Aranmula, as on today. The Government is asked by a Court to conduct a Vigilance probe about the irregularities in land deals. There are a number of irregularities surfaced regarding falsification of Land registration papers and encroachment of Public land for the Airport which is against the Hon. Supreme Court's standing order and thus cancellation of Mutation of230 or so acres of land.
