The five major federations of port and dock workers will stage a protest dharna before the Transport Bhavan on September 5 highlighting various demands.
Simultaneously, port and dock workers in major ports would also organise dharnas before the administrative offices of their respective ports at the national level on the same day.
The federation leaders said that they had submitted a joint charter of demands to to the Chairman, Bipartite Wage Negotiating Committee and the Indian Ports Association (IPA).
The demands are for the revision of wages and other service conditions of Group C and D employees to be given effect from January 1, 2012
However, the authorities had not taken any steps to pay the PLR (Bonus) even after the lapse of one year.
Besides, the PLR scheme formulated by the IPA in consultation with the federations for payment of PLR for three years from 2011-12 to 2013-14 was also kept pending. The proposal had already been sent to the Shipping Ministry for approval.
The federations pointed out that several such proposals send from the IPA like implementation of the recommendations of Afzul Purkar Committee with regard to categorisation and classification of port workers at all the major ports is still pending without disclosing any valid reasons.
The five federations are All India Port and Dock Workers Federation, All India Port and Dock Workers Federation (Workers), Indian National Port and Dock Workers Federation, Water Transport Workers Federation of India, Port, Dock Waterfront Workers Federation of India.
