A company’s sustainability lies in its contribution to the society, over and above its economic and ecological performance was the consensus at a conference on sustainability held on Friday, where industry captains and academicians underlined the importance of social inclusion within organisations.

Leaders at the Sustainability in Leadership conference said that while financial viability is indicated by credit rating of a company, parameters such as number of women in total workforce, social responsibility initiatives and others are linked with sustainability.

According to Anand Nayak, Head, Corporate Human Resources and Member, Corporate Management Committee, ITC, sustainability of a company is ascertained by the triple bottom line approach — economic, environmental and social capital.

Neetika Batra, Chair, Business Leadership Programme, School of Inspired Leadership, said, “If sustainability is taken care of, all the other aspects in leadership will be taken care of.”
